|Experts to Discuss Africa's Changing Role at AfDB AGM, Thursday, 15 Mar 2012|
(THISDAY) Africa's changing role in the world as her economies continue to grow faster than the rest, will be the focus of discussion at the 47th Annual General Meeting of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB), which holds in Arusha, Tanzania, from May 28 to June 1. The 2012 meeting, which has the theme: "Africa and the Emerging Global Landscape: Challenges and Opportunities", will be a gathering of numerous high-level participants from the AfDB's member countries. AfDB said in a statement that, "participants will come from both the AfDB's African regional member countries and its non-regional member countries outside Africa, representing the worlds of finance, banking, government, economics, donors, the media, civil society, development and academia."The meeting will also discuss the AfDB's role in promoting this growth and development through its projects, operations and investments around the continent.Besides, AfDB said in the statement that, it welcomed contributions towards the formulation of its new 10-year Long-term Strategy for 2013 to 2022.
According to the development bank, "it has already begun consultations both internally and externally on the creation of this Long-term Strategy, which will replace the current five-year Medium-term Strategy for 2008 to 2012." Meanwhile, AfDB has announced the appointment of Dr. Magatte Wade as its Head ag Communication and External Relations. Wade, who was the lead communications and external relations expert at AfDB, succeeds Mr. Richard Uku. Wade holds a Doctorate in Literature and Human Sciences from the Cheikh Anta Diop University. He also holds a Degree Certificate and a Master's Degree in Communication Sciences and Technology from the Communications Study and Research Centre from Abidjan University as well as a Certificate of Organisational Behaviour from Robert Kennedy College. Wade was Secretary of the Association of African Development Finance Institutions (AADFI) from 1997 to 2001 after working as a communications consultant on behalf of several national and international organisations, such as the technology park, the African ILO, the UNDP, GTZ and AfDB. It was under his mandate that the AADFI gained independence from the AfDB and was able to construct its offices at Deux Plateaux in Abidjan.
